Press Release

The Avenue Program’s partnership with corporations, foundations, individual contributors, and non-profit organizations and countless volunteers enable our impact and provision of the services.

What resources does the AVENUE Program have available?

The Avenue has assembled a diverse volunteer group along with an advisory board, which will assist in maintaining the credibility and integrity of the Program.

First Annual AVENUE Track Clinic:

Offered in conjunction with the Potomac Valley Association of USA Track & Field, the clinic provided an opportunity for area children, some of whom had never before participated in track and field, to interact with Olympic and elite athletes. The athletes shared their personal insights on achieving in education, careers, and life in general in addition to one on one attention to improving the children’s athletic skills.

AVENUE Adopt-a-School Program

While hosting the AVENUE Track Clinic it was brought to our attention that the track team at Spingarn H.S., in Washington D.C. had limited essential track & field equipment such as running shoes and uniforms.

The AVENUE Program gathered brand new and used (but usable) equipment and donated it to the team. We decided to make this an official part of our program and reach out to other schools, clubs and programs that need athletic gear and clothing.

Combining gently used articles from AVENUE volunteers and brand new surplus uniforms, we have been able to donate to Spingarn H.S. as well as other organizations.

These include the Cavalier-Cavalette Track Club located in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Clean & Pure, Inc. an organization catering to at-risk youth, the Camp Teamwork Foundation broad-based organization for children that sponsors an annual clothing drive, and Dunbar High School.
